Upskirt photography is a form of photography where someoone takes a photograph of a woman from behind or up her skirt without her knowledge.

This photography is often posted on the internet for people to comment on and share, there has been a lot of controversy around this recently as many women are not even aware their images are being posted online. The photographers rarely capture the victims face and it is unlikely that the female would come across one of these specialist sites. Even if they did see these photos it is unlikely they would recognise themselves, so the offending photographers get away with it.

When it comes to voyeurs who photograph or videotape up a woman’s skirt (known as “upskirting”) or snap a photo down a woman’s shirt (”downblousing”), though, “there are not many practical, legal remedies available to people who find themselves the victim,” says Anita Allen, a privacy expert and professor at Penn Law. That’s if the woman even realizes she is a victim in the first place, which is unlikely, as the voyeur typically manages to go undetected. If the photo or video is published online — which, increasingly, it is — it would be difficult for the subject to ever come across the material. Even if she did, how could she recognize one underwear-clad rear as her own?

Some feminists have called for laws to protect women from this kind of exposure and claimed that the photography is pornagraphic and in breach of womens privacy. I am inclined to agree as there should be laws to protect women from having there images shown all over the web.

As a photographer I need to get model release forms signed from any one I photograph whether it is there face or any other part of there body. It is also a bit creepy thinking that guys are out there taking photos of you when you are not looking.

To prevent this the sites should be banned and photographers posting these images should be fined!
