Timpson Saves Photo Processing Shops

Timpson, the family-owned shoe repair and key-cutting chain have bought a number of the Max Spielmann and Klick photo-processing shops this week in a deal which should save about 545 jobs.
Since the stores have been struggling KPMG, joint administrators to Bowie Castlebank Group, the previous owners of the businesses have been forced to sell 187 of the stores to Timpsons. This has come as a great relief to over 500 workers in the stores whose jobs will be saved.
The two Processing shops went into administration about three weeks ago, and employed 1,664 people in the Klick outlets and Max Spielmann shops in the UK.
This year it seems Timpson, based in Manchester, have benefited from the credit crunch as this is the second company they ave bought through administration.
They also bought Persil Services in June, this is a dry-cleaning service that is found in in 75 Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.
John Timpson, the chairman of Timpson, said: “The strength of our core shoe-repair business has given us the chance to expand our reputation for unique customer care into another part of the high street. We see this as a great opportunity to apply the successful Timpson culture to another service business.”
He said that both chains would be rebranded under the fascia “Max” and would trade as a new division within the Timpson group, to be run by David Edwards, a former chief executive of Max Spielmann.
Timpson was founded by William Timpson in 1865 in Manchester, the great-grandfather of Mr Timpson, whose son, Edward, was elected as a Conservative MP in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election in May.
