The World’s Fastest Lens

Leica has given us a glimpse at the future of lenses and unveiled the world’s fastest asphercial lens so far! The NOCTILUX-M 50 mm f/0.95 ASPH is due to be released February next year and boasts to have broken the ’sound barrier’ of the optical lenses. The lens is even faster than the SUMMILUX-M 50 mm f /1.4 ASPH. It has a wide  aperture which at maximum gives an extremely shallow depth of field at very low-light capability. £6290 it will be made available in February 2009.

Lens manufacturers have for years been trying to create a lens that will be that fast, the designs have come close but until now they couldn’t achieve it for a 35mm camera design. The Canon 0.95 “came close with a bold attempt;but this was before modern aspherical lens technology was developed.

Comparing  distortion and vignetting values up against the other lenses lenses at full aperture, the new EICA NOCTILUX-M 50 mm f / 0.95 ASPH is a clear winner and much faster.

The lens, 0.95 full aperture, has a depth of field that is incredibly shallow and will capture the smallest detail even in low lights the LEICA NOCTILUX-M 50 mm f / 0.95 ASPH,is said to be faster than the human eye even better than any of its competitors. It is hand crafted in Germany and is said to be futureproof! Well for £6290
(inc VAT) it better be.
