The End of The Disposable Camera

The disposable camera has been a firm favorite for kids parties, nights out and weddings, the ease and inexpense of a disposable camera meant you could take your camera every where and not be worried about it getting damaged or stolen.

But sales of disposable cameras have dropped over the tears, not digital cameras are becoming, cheaper, smaller, easier to use and more durable. You rarely see a disposable camera these days, I remember at university every one had one for a night out or theme night, but now they take a PowerShot or Lumix that will fit neatly in a clutch bag or pocket.

Things have got so bad that the company that brought the disposalble camera to us is set to shut its doors for the last time.

Camera giants, concord brought us the 35mm disposable camera that over threw Polaroid in instant easy cameras 25 years ago. The company based in Hollywood lost a lot of orders as their biggest clients switched over to digital.
Slow to cash in the company looked for a buyer but had apparently left it too lte as in the credit crunch no one wants to buy especially a company that seems to be left behind by the digital era. The board decided that they had no choice but to go into liquidation.

So a sad end to this company but other companies won’t desert their ‘disposable’ roots the trick is to keep the right balance with new technology and old favourites as I feel the cheeky little disposable camera will still pop up from time to time. They are the perfect thing to but into goody bags for hen nights, stag do’s, birthdays, and I give them to children to practice taking photos with. I’m sure we’ll still see them around for years to come.
