Styling your Shoot

When setting up your shoot it is important to get the set right, you should always have a strong idea in mind about what you want to get out of the shoot and what the style should be. It is also extremely important to do your research and make sure you have covered every simple detail.
If you are doing a period shoot you cannot have anything that looks modern in there as it will ruin the whole shot. You have to research the period you are hoping to achieve and make sure every little detail has been checked.
If you are shooting a model and she forgets to take her jewelry off then that can ruin the shot, or if you hold it in an old hotel room but they have contemporary furniture in there then that can take away from the whole style of the shoot.
Some photographers get to work with stylists, art directors, set designers and makeup artists who will help you get the look right but they are the lucky ones. Especially in the current economic climate the budget isn’t always there for so many experts to be envolvedso the responsibility falls on the photographer.
This means you may have to spend days prepping for a shoot, in the library or on the internet researching then trying to procure all the items you will need to add authenticity, it seems the job of a photographer is getting harder and harder.
