PhotoShopped Propaganda

Today it is very easy to manipulate and image using photoshop or other editing tools and software but is this just another form of propaganda?
Once upon a time a great shot was grtting everything right but now digital photography has taken over and with it comes editing suites to help you cover up those minor mistakes. You rarely see a front cover model who has not been airbrushed to perfection getting rid of blemishes and in some cases even a couple of inches!
How can you tell what is real and what is subtly airbrushed? The cloning tool is one of the most common suspects giving a more ‘finished’ look getting rid of spots or discoloured skin but tends to be quite easy to spot.
But what of all the other trix you can manipulate any image, even by adjusting the colour balance you can alter the whole mood of the image. Is this just another form of propaganda? Really the photographer should be allowed to express themselves artisticly but where is the line?
A lot of news photographers manipulate an image to convey the mood of the situation but is this reality or the subjective opinion of the photographer? Even airbrushing models is considered a form of propaganda as if these beautiful women are still not perfect enough to be looked up to by young girls they have to manipulate the image even more till people accept this painted face as average and normal, anything different from this is perceived as abnormal and wrong.
I love the editing tool but I would never over edit an image to look different although I suppose this is still putting my stamp and personality on the image other than my styla of photography.

In the wrong hands photoshop could be a dangerous or very useful tool depending on your agenda. Imagine if Mr J Gerbils (sic) had photoshop in 1938!! By the way, i used a little Nikon L11 and also FP4 in a Canon A1, schitzo or what?
