Practical Photography

In the current economic crisis the people who are being hit the hardest are people who are self employed or freelance. Many photographers come under this category and are probably the first people who are starting to feel the strain of the credit crunch.

I know first hand what it is like to be self employed, you become not only a master in your own trade but you become a sales person, marketing exec, and accountant. You have to make sure people know about you, network, cold call to get the work in you need to work out competitive prices that are still sustainable and also find the time to actually do the job.

It is no wonder that with people tightening their belts and saving on luxuries that many freelance photographers are looking for more permanent jobs. Some photographers are taking any job going but ideally they are all going for those photography jobs that allow them to continue their passion with the security of being part of a company.

You won’t find a photography job on Monster though your better of going to specific Photography or creative recruitment agencies such as Orchard or Ucreative. Also applying directly to companies such as Venture or Photolink can help get you through the door.

But be warned their are not many jobs and a lot of competition so good luck!
