Photographers deny Monroe Theft

Marylin Monroe

The dispute continues between Bert Stern, Michael Weiss and Donald Penny, Bert Stern accused Weiss and Penny of stealing precious Marylin Monroe Photographs that were shot by Stern and licensed to him.

Stern is suing the two photographers accusing the pair of stealing the images then trying to negotiate a fee for their return. The images were last known to have been lent to editorial magazine Eros by Stern over 30 years ago. The images were never returned and it wasn’t until the pair approached Stern about them that he realised they were missing.

Weiss and Penny claimed in court last week that they discovered the photographs abandoned in a trash can in a side street in New York in 1970 and only apprached Stern to get licensing permission to use the images themselves. They deny stealing the images and maintain their claim that they innocently discovered them.

The trial is ongoing and it seems the dispute is taking a long time to resolve due to the two parties claiming innocence.
