Photographer Of The Week - Vittorio Alinari

This week in the spirit of the Tour De France I came across an image of Cyclists by the Photographer Vittorio Alinari. This Italian photographer is probably credited in all the most popular photo books as one of the best known photographers from his time.

The picture above entitled ‘Cyclists’ is probably one of Alinari’s most famous images, the cyclists are still but by there poses imply movement, it was photographed in a tudio against a backdrop of flowers.

Vittorio inherited his photography passion from his father Leopoldo Alinari, who with his brothers Guisseppe and Romualdo set up a photography Studio in Florence in 1852. The studio was initially used to photograph masterpieces for mass production until Vittorio who had an interest in Italian reportage and documentary photography shifted the business to this in 1892.

Vittorios work is carefully thought out and he took advantage of different perspectives he led his fathers photography Studio in this way until 1920 and died in 1932.
