The name of the game is back up, what ever you do you should always have back up copies of your images, for my best images I try to have a printed copy, cd copy and online copies. This gives me peace of mind that if one thing fails I will have a back up.

An online backup can be very handy if your on the move a lot, you can add your photos to an online database and pick them up from any computer.

A good online back up is Picasa Web Album owned by Google, you can log in using your Google account from any computer and upload images, do some simple editing and share them. This is great for social photographs as you can organise your photographs in different tags, for example tagging certain people in your photos like ‘Mum’ or ‘Dave’ then you can organise them so all the tagged images come into the same folder which can be viewed by the person if you want.

Picasa web album is free to download and can help you organise your files as well as provide a good online back up for your images. You can also use other online platforms, even facebook can help you store your images although you are limited to file size so always have a cd/dvd back up as well.
