Nikon boycotts Microsoft
Nikon have withdrawn from the Microsoft Photography competition, a couple of weeks ago Nikon first took away their support from the computer giants competition over a row about copywrite infringements. Since then it seems other photographers have followed suit as the photography competiton has seen more and more people drop out.
The issue was first raised a few weeks ago when it was revealed that to enter The Iconic Britain competition entrants where to submit an entry they had found using a live search of third party images!
These rules meant that it was only up to the entrant to check whether the image they had found and submitted actually infringed the original photographer’s intellectual property rights.
So basically an entrant could just harvest an images without crediting the original photographer.
Nikon pulled from this believing that it was a farse and since then the competition has faced hearsh criticism.
Although Nikon pulled out they have kept true to their word on the prizes they donated.
