Modern Boxing Photography

As boxing has evolved to become much more marketable over the past few years so to has photography techniques to promote it.
I’m sure many regular readers have now cottoned on to the fact that I am myself a bit of a boxing fan, something which I like to combine with my photography by working with the odd boxing promotional agencies and gyms. It is more of a hobby for me at the moment but the wy boxing is going I feel it won’t be long before boxing photography becomes an important player in boxing promotion and marketing.
In the days of great fighters such as Mohammed Ali boxing photography would be a snapshot of a moment in a fight, these would become epic images that would be reproduced all over the world. Today these images are just as important for the sport as a whole but modern boxing photography has become more promotional and photographers are producing gritty emotive images of the boxers posing in studios a long way from the ring.
These pictures are being produced to increase brand awareness of the fighter and each boxer now has more of a marketing strategy and spends money on advertising as if they were a corporate business. Big names sell tickets and the pantomime role play that surrounds boxing at the moment gets fans spurred on for the next fight.
Any sports photographers out there should be jusmping on the band wagon as modern boxing photography will be a big money spinner over the next few years.
