London Olympics

The British team have been back in the UK for a week or so now and after the most successful olympics for the british team in decades sports lovers are looking forward to the 2012 Olympics on home ground!
This little Island has proves however small we are the title ‘Great’ Britain still applies when it comes to most things. Our Music is enjoyed internationally, we have great artists and after the Olympics no one can deny we have great sports men and women.
China put on a fantastic show this year beautifully choregraphed from start to finish and kept an amazing number of medals on their home turf. I’m not going into the obvious ethical debate on china’s discipline and training methods, but can we put on a show to remember in 2012.
So far we are off to a disapointing start, the marmite factor of the 2012 logo (you either love it or hate it) has already been described as resembling “Lisa Simpson giving a blow job”. The construction of the new stadium has been slowed down and the economic crisis at the momnet makes me wonder where the money will come from to fund such an event.
Photographers have been arrested outside the grounds of the Olympic village that is currently under construction which may be the beginning of the trend to keep photographers away as police and security start as they mean to go on. But how will we gain public support if the sports aren’t in the media thus affecting the sponsorship and funding of the games. This may be a temporary blip but with negativity increasing faster than petrol prices we need something to look forward to.
Time will tell how Britain can fair up to the militant performance of our eastern friends and the pressure is on to keep Britain Great in the eyes of the rest of the world. I hope we can rally up enough support for our home grown heros to make the 2012 Olympics something for Britain to be proud of.
