Practical Photography

Getting the perfect image is key but you cannot leave anything to chance, always expect the worst from the weather and make sure you have the best props including all the minor details.

Recently I did a shoot for a male model he wanted to increase his portfolio and get some outdoor shots, he also wanted a few cars in the shot.

Well… the cheeky bugger wasn’t too keen on having his photo taken in front of my Citroen C1 and wanted something a bit smarter. He is quite successful as a model and has a BMW himself with a personalised number plate but he didn’t want that in the shot as people would recognise it as his car and both of agreed it perhaps didn’t give off the right impression for the shoot as he was going for a commercial look that would be appealing to every day people.

We decided that the best thing to do was go to a car leasing company and lease a car for the day. We worked out a deal with the leasing company where, under their supervision, we borrowed the car for a day, then me and the model released the rights for that particular shot for them to use for any promotional material they wanted. I also did a few extra shots of their cars for their website.

This worked out really well for everyone envolved, we all got the shot we wanted without having to pay out too much money.
