Laser Engraving

Its hard to believe but this image of the mona lisa is completely engraved in wood! Using laser technology you can now reproduce your favourite images in wood carvings!

I’d heard of laser cutting and used it previously for making props but laser engraving is a great unique way to showcase your images and becomes a lovely gift for someone. Wood is just one option, when using laser engraving you can reproduce your best images onto plastic, metal and my favourite is glass. You can choose anything and at cutting technology they even engrave fruit!

Lasers were first introduced to the general population in 1960 for barcode scanners, since then science fiction has embraced their potential as weapons, readers, and even transporting people, a lot of these are myths but some have an element of truth.

In the James Bond Film Goldfinger lasers are famously used heading dangerously towards Sean Connery’s groin, this was an optical trick using coloured light as a laser would not be visible on camera, also it would not be visible to the naked eye in space ( a vacuum) as there would be no molecules for the beam to scatter off, sorry all you sci fi fans maybe star trek isn’t real after all!

I can’t wait to start getting my images and designs laser engraved into different materials and it could be a great novelty gift to get someones picture engraved onto an orange.

I think the first thing I will try out will be engraving a photograph onto glass I think the result could be stunning and look great to keep or to market.
