Infra Red Photography

If someone where to say to me they wanted to know about Infra Red Photography a year ago I would have thought they were talking about some Sci Fi or Bond film.
Infrared photography uses ultra sensitive films that pick up the light we can see and also shows up longer length light waves (above 700 nm)such as infra-red radiation. To Pick up an even better range some films will pick up shorter light waves such as UV rays (below 400 nm). The film is sensitive to near-infrared radiation ranging all the way through to wavelengths of approximately 1000 nm (1 micron). These films can be used for scientific analysis such as forensic applications or aerial crop and forest surveys. Experts also use these films for the restoration and investigation of paintings, but expanding the range can also create some beautiful images.
For non digital SLRs you have to find new ways to keep up with digital competitors and by using Kodak’s High Speed Infrared black and white film you can get the infra red exposure and get some lovely photographs. Since discovering this I love the technique and the results are great showng vivid colours and new shapes.
