I May Not Know Fashion… But I Know What I Like!

Fashion photography was once a very dull medium where the images looked similar and the clothes to precedent to creativity. These days fashion photography has taking more of a stand as a creative art form with photographers pushing boundaries and testing perceptions.
Fashion photographers such as Guy Bourdin made the composition more about the image than the product and be doing so gave life to the garment, gave it movement and a story. Fashion photography is about the narrative of the image just as much as the label.
Fashion is being recognised as an art form more and more and with that fashion photography is becoming widely reproduced for personal use or exhibitions rather than commercial distribution as initially intended.
The London Photographers Gallery held an exhibition this year called Fashion in the mirror, this exhibition embraced the commercial medium as an art form and through this display opened peoples minds to the genre as a serious art form. There is already debate over whether photography should be considered and art form so fashion photography will know doubt suffer this criticism but really some photographers hail fashion as the most creative output available and it is commercially viable.
