You would think Angelina starring in the Bible would be somewhat sacrilegeous after her gophic escapades whist she was married to Billy Bob Thornton! Since then she has turned over a new leaf and with her charity work and adoptions she has become somewhat a Mother Theresa figure for Hollywood. But I still would not assosciate Angelina with the Bible!

So whats going on? The modern Bible Illuminated is a modern take on the New Testament. In an effort to popularise Christianity the publishers must have though… “hey I know, lets put some celebrities in this then people may read it!”

Religion has become much less popular over the years and celebrities have become role models leading people in style and religion. Sales of Kabalah bands went up ten fold after the likes of Madonna nad Ashton Kutcher started wearing them and even Scientology has become more poular since Tom Cruise and John Travolta ecame ambassadors in the church.

The Bible illuminated was a Swedish concept to popularise the Bible stories by portraying them in the style of a magazine.

“Well-known figures among the more than 200 photographs are Andy Warhol in drag in the Book of John, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, cult leader Jim Jones, Bill Gates and John Lennon,” according to columnist Byron Crawford in The Courier-Journal. “Muhammad Ali, Angelina Jolie, Al Gore, Princess Diana and Bono” are also portrayed as characters from the Bible”
