Practical Photography

The latest season of the hit reality TV show Americas Next Top Model kicked off a few weeks ago and unfortunately I’ve not managed to catch one episode yet! I am hoping to catch it as I love the scandals, fall outs , and diva strops from the American girls looking to get there big break in the Modelling Industry.

Its not just the gossip I watch it for though I enjoy seeing the photoshoots and seeing the different styles of photography that they use to build up the girls’ portfolios and test their versatility in the competition.

The locations and budget is through the roof and it is inspiring to see what they can do with what are usually very ‘average’ girls. Past shoots have been, underwater ( a personal favourite photography style of mine), super heros, political and glamour. These are all different ideas that I have adopted to extend my own portfolio.

My favourite bit of Americas Next Top Model is when Tyra Banks dons a camera and tries her own hand at photography. Working as an international model for many years Tyra has obviously picked up some tips from the professionals she has worked with and she is excellent at art direction and geting what she wants from the models. Her images are usually black and white ( a hint into her style) and very emotive she seems to enjoy close ups where the models really have to work hard as they cannot rely on props to make the photograph.

I’ll be setting the sky plus box to series link for this season and hopefully I’ll get the chance to catch up on the ones I’ve missed.
