1 in 3 Politicians Back Photography

231 of the 646 elected members of the House of Commons have backed the proposed Early Day Motion (EDM), thats more than a third of  MPs! The petition is to support people’s right to take photos in public places.

Austin Mitchell gained the suport of fellow politicians after reported incidents of police and other officials stopping photographers from taking pictures in public places.

Amateur Photographer (AP) magazine reported many of these incidents which Austin Mitchell drew upon as case studies to help him compile the EDM.

Austin hopes to bring this to the attention of the Home Office Minister Tony McNulty and bring along a  representative from Amateur Photographer to address the minister.

I hope this will be enough to stop the interrogation of photographers by officials we understand the need to keep people safe from terrorism etc but most of the poeple being stopped are genuine enthusiasts.
